Engagement Rate Calculator

Last updated August 6, 2026 · Written by the Growently Team
Quick answer: Enter your followers and your average likes, comments, shares and views — get your engagement rate two ways (by followers and by views, the metric platforms actually optimize), plus an honest benchmark verdict. Free, no signup.

Which engagement rate matters?

By views is the honest one. Follower-based engagement punishes big accounts (most followers never see any given post) and flatters small ones. TikTok's own distribution logic runs on per-view signals — completion, likes-per-view, shares-per-view — so measuring the way the platform measures tells you what the algorithm actually sees. Use follower-based ER only when comparing accounts of similar size, or because a brand deal asks for it.

How this tool works: it runs instantly in your browser on a plain math and published benchmark ranges — no signup, no login wall, nothing stored. It gives you strong starting points fast; your judgment makes them yours.

Benchmark ranges (short-form, 2026)

ER by viewsReading
Under 3%Below typical — usually a hook/retention problem, not a content-topic problem
3–6%Typical healthy range for consistent accounts
6–10%Strong — content clearly resonates with the audience reached
10%+Exceptional — usually niche accounts with tight community

Ranges are directional aggregates across public studies and our own publishing data — niches differ (comedy runs higher, B2B lower). Trend beats snapshot: your own rate month-over-month is the number to manage.

Frequently asked questions

What's a good engagement rate on TikTok?

By views: 3–6% is typical, above 6% is strong. By followers: 1–3% is typical. Views-based is the better metric because it measures the audience that actually saw the post.

Why is my engagement rate dropping as I grow?

Usually arithmetic, not decline: follower-based ER almost always falls as accounts grow, because reach doesn't scale linearly with followers. Check your views-based rate before concluding anything is wrong.

Do saves and shares count more than likes?

Effectively yes. Likes are cheap signals; shares and saves predict redistribution far better, and completion rate outranks them all. Optimize for 'worth finishing and sending to a friend'.

How do I improve engagement fastest?

In order: stronger hooks (retention lifts everything), one clear CTA per post instead of three, and replying to comments in the first hour — early conversation compounds distribution.

We build Growently, a social media scheduler that publishes to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Bluesky, Reddit and Google Business Profile through each platform's official API. These guides are based on our own publishing data, hands-on testing, and each platform's official documentation — and we update them as the platforms change. Spot something outdated?
