Facebook Messenger automation — answer every DM without living in your inbox
What Messenger automation can do (and what it can't)
The Messenger Platform is Meta's official API for Page messaging. Within its rules, a Page can:
- Reply instantly to inbound messages — greetings, FAQs, links to your content or shop.
- Answer within the 24-hour window — after someone messages you, you have 24 hours to respond freely; after that, only specific message tags apply.
- Route conversations to a human — automation handles the first touch, you handle the ones that matter.
What it can't do: cold outreach. Businesses can't message people who haven't messaged them first — Messenger automation is a response engine, not a broadcast channel. That's a Meta platform rule, and any tool claiming otherwise is risking your Page.
What you can use today (free, without Growently)
Meta Business Suite → Inbox → Automations gives every Page free instant replies, away messages, and simple FAQ automations. It's basic but real — set it up today; it takes ten minutes and catches the 80% of DMs that ask the same three questions.
How Messenger automation pairs with Growently
- Publishing on a routine — schedule your Facebook Page posts, first comments and Reels in Growently, so the content that drives DMs goes out consistently.
- Comment replies from the app — reply to Facebook and Instagram comments from Growently's Comments & insights panel, then let Messenger auto-replies handle the DMs.
- Official API only — same policy as every Growently integration: Meta's official APIs, no password sharing, no account risk.
Frequently asked questions
Can you automate Facebook Messenger replies?
Yes — Meta's Messenger Platform lets Pages reply to inbound messages programmatically: instant replies, FAQ answers, and routing to a human. It applies to messages people send your Page first; businesses can't cold-message users.
How does Growently fit with Messenger?
Growently covers the publishing side of your Facebook Page — scheduled posts, first comments, comment replies and insights — from the same calendar as your other ten platforms. Messenger conversations themselves live in Meta Business Suite's inbox, and the automation rules on this page are set up there.
Is Messenger automation free?
Meta's Messenger Platform API is free for standard messaging within its rules. Meta Business Suite also offers basic free instant replies and away messages you can use today.
